Originally called The Ferns, The Godwins Hotel is a charming, listed building noted for its striking red brick Gothic appearance. It was built in 1879-80 for William H. Godwin of Godwin’s Tiles, who had their factory in neighbouring Lugwardine. In October 1853 The Hereford Times declared of Godwin’s tiles that “the variety of the designs and the richness of the colours were alike very much admired”. For half a century they enjoyed national and international acclaim and brought unprecedented attention to a quiet corner of Herefordshire. 150 years later these beautiful, multicoloured tiles covering floors, fireplaces and wall boarders are still appreciated by our guests. The Godwins Hotel offers plenty of free parking and has a spacious outdoor patio for warmer days.
