Positive Reviews
positive:
Polite and cordial staff for the rooms and pub.
Staff who handle the rooms, as well as the service for the pub, are friendly, informative, and intent on helping you have the best time possible. They are pleasant to deal with, and add to the good reasons to make a return stay here.
positive:
Location is great for seeing the local attractions.
Southern Cross is near a lot of the area's attractions. With this as a base, it's quite easy to get to entertainment venues, go shopping, and try out or keep up to par with sports and leisure activities. Having public transit nearby also helps with schedules and seeing the region.
positive:
A quiet and peaceful stay despite the pub setting.
Although pub settings are often not the best accommodations when it comes to peaceful sleep, this inn is thankfully relatively quiet. The walls and floors seem to be thick enough to buffer noise, and you may forget that you're staying at a lodge that includes a late night bar.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Kettles are disappointingly not thoroughly clean.
It's the little things that can make all the difference, and tea is certainly one of those considerations. The kettles are unfortunately not always properly cleaned before use, and thus a turn-off when guests go to make their cuppa.
negative:
It's a let-down that breakfast is not available.
Being able to have a breakfast here would be much appreciated. There are places close by to get a morning meal, but the ambiance is slightly dampened by not being able to at least choose between staying onsite or going out.
negative:
Accommodations are too run-down and shabby.
The rooms could use some sort of makeover, whether it be newer furnishings, brighter colours, or different layouts or decorative pieces. In their present state, they're too drab and worn looking.
