Portego, like many other properties on the island, is in a semi-rural location. While this obviously didn't suit all guests, those who where seeking a bit of peace and quite, rather than nightlife and excitement, found it a lovely spot to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
The apartments are described as a family-run business, with many members of the family chipping in here and there. Several guests expressed the opinion that this resulted in a much friendlier and welcoming atmosphere than would be the case at an anonymous corporate property.
While the entertainment strip was some distance away, guests mentioned that there was a branch of a popular discount supermarket chain just a few minutes walk away. They found it very handy to stock up on supplies.
While this was just one comment relating to the kitchenettes, other guests agreed that it was really not equipped to do much of anything. Tea, coffee and instant soup seemed to be about the extent of what could be achieved with the equipment available.
The nearest entertainment strip is described as being at least 30 minutes walk away. While it was said cabs to get there were not too expensive, some guests did feel a bit isolated at the apartments, saying they were more suitable for those seeking peace and quiet.
Though most guests were reasonably happy with the cleanliness of their apartment on check-in, many said that the cleaning staff did a poor job keeping it clean during their stay. It seemed the cleaning schedule had no rhyme or reason, but even after it had been cleaned it wasn't entirely satisfactory.
