Positive Reviews
positive:
Location, location, location.
Those who stayed at Old Quarter found it to inhabit a good spot both a few minutes away from the central railway station and the Red Light District, offering a good range of eateries, bars and nightlife within a short stroll.
positive:
Basic, comfortable lodgings.
Guests generally considered the rooms to be basic, but clean and comfortable and some thought it was quite a reasonable price for Amsterdam. Some guests were very happy with the nice canal views they had from their superior rooms.
positive:
Bar around the clock.
The bar/reception is open around the clock, and was found to have extensive happy hours, a relaxed atmosphere with an neat seating area, friendly staff and some decent food on offer.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms small, shared bathrooms.
Some guests at Old Quarter found the rooms to be small — a couple of people noted this was normal for Amsterdam — while others were not so impressed with having to share bathroom facilities, and these arrangements contributed to a few guests being unhappy with the prices they paid.
negative:
Some noise from other guests.
The walls are reportedly thin, according to a small number of guests, who said that they could hear people in other rooms and the hallways. Given the location, a little noise from outside is also possible, so take earplugs if you plan on doing a lot of sleeping.
negative:
There are stairs, but also a lift….
This hotel does have typical Dutch stairs, and lots of them, but there is also a lift, which must be either out of service at times or hard to find as many guests mentioned having to trek up the steps.
