Alexander Homestead occupies an elegant Victorian building and is just a short distance away from many of St Augustine’s attractions and landmarks. The en-suite rooms have private porches and separate seating areas. Some feature fireplaces and whirlpool baths whilst all have the benefit of satellite televisions, safes, hairdryers, ironing equipment and air-conditioning. Free Wi-Fi is also available. The self-catering suite adds a fully-equipped kitchen. Alexander Homestead boasts a comfortable living room where guests can enjoy complimentary after- dinner drinks. Guests can also relax on the communal porch and have access to a private garden. Complimentary breakfasts are served on –site as well as drinks throughout the day whilst guests can enjoy their lunch and evening meals at some of the local cafes and restaurants such as the Floridian Restaurant and the Columbia Restaurant. Potter’s Wax Museum and Castillo de San Marcos are both in close proximity to the inn.
The inn is tucked away on a quiet residential street which meant that guests could enjoy peaceful and tranquil evenings. Many appreciated being away from the hustle and bustle yet still within easy walking distance from many of St Augustine’s popular attractions. As there is no restaurant on the premises, guests were pleased to find plenty of bars and cafes on their doorstep.
The building dates back to the 1800’s and many said that they felt like they had stepped back in time during their stay here. Guests appreciated many of the original period features such as the open fire places and solid wood floors.
Guests thoroughly appreciated having access to their own private porches where they could relax with a glass of wine in the evenings whilst taking in the views. The cosy and inviting lounge with comfortable sofas and an open fire was also attracted many guests who said that it was a great place to unwind and socialise.
Many said that the rooms were starting to show their age and objected to the rather tired looking decor which included stained carpets and marks on the walls. According to the guests, the rooms would benefit from a fresh lick of paint as well as some of the bathrooms.
Quite a few guests mentioned that they only saw the proprietors on a few occasions and often upon checking in there was no one to welcome the guests at the reception area.
Guests reported several plumbing-related issues including weak water pressure which made showering rather cumbersome and having to wait for quite a while for the hot water to come through.
