Outstanding staff.
Most guests give the front desk staff rave reviews for their personable and professional customer service, noting that they seem genuinely interested in sharing their knowledge of the local area, and ensuring that guests have an exceptional visit. Several guests were pleased to check in early after a long trip, while others were impressed that the staff quickly learned their names, and were able to converse with them in several different languages.
positive:
Exceptional location.
Guests rave about the Marriott Ghent's location in the heart of the old town. The hotel offers paid underground parking, and most guests do not find they need to move their cars once during their stay, as most of the city's cultural, historical, and retail attractions are well within walking distance, as are many fine restaurants.
positive:
Clean rooms with river views.
Most guests find the rooms to be sparkling clean, with comfortable, modern furnishings and reliable Wi-Fi. Several guests mentioned the plush beds, and few fail to mention the impressive canal views from the large windows.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Light sleepers beware...
Many of the rooms have exterior doors which open onto a "grand lounge", which is reportedly lovely but can get noisy when the space is being used for parties.
negative:
Pricey parking and empty minibars...
Several guests noted that parking is not inexpensive, and that spaces are limited. It is possible to reserve a spot ahead of time for an additional charge. Other guests were disappointed to find that the "minibar" was simply an empty mini refrigerator.
negative:
Nobody's perfect...
Though most guests are very pleased with the level of customer service they receive, a smaller group found that their concerns were not addressed as promptly or effectively as they had hoped. The most frequently reported issue seems to be inefficient service in the Poppi Bar.
