The 4-star Whistler’s Inn, an English Tudor mansion two blocks from Lenox town center, is close to Tanglewood, Shakespeare & Co., and all of Berkshires’ most popular cultural venues. Once owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wynans Whistler, railroad tycoon and nephew of the painter, James A, M. Whistler, the antique-filled inn is located on seven acres of perennial gardens and woodland. Twenty-two miles of hiking trails is located just across the street in Kennedy Park. Each air-conditioned guest room is uniquely designed and has a private bath. Most rooms have a Victorian theme. There is easy access to a coffee and tea station, as well as a refrigerator, all located on the second floor. The largest guest room, which is located in the coach house, is decorated with paintings and many tribal artifacts from the African continent. The rustic Santa Fe Room with its private deck, also located in the coach house, is the only animal-friendly room on the property. The library possesses a rich trove of books, both vintage and modern, as well as magazines and periodicals. Here, sherry is available and complementary to guests. The adjacent music room with an 1878 Steinway Grand is elegantly furnished with 19th century gilt furniture, marble fireplace and crystal chandelier. French doors open onto the terrace, where guests may sunbathe, relax and enjoy the perennial gardens, and in springtime--the breathtaking 40 foot high wall of rhododendrons in bloom. Whistler’s Inn captures the warmth, comfort, and elegance of a bygone era.
